Radar technology capable of detecting a small drone approximately 50 centimeters in size at a distance of 3 kilometers has been developed.

A joint team involving DGIST’s Dae-gun Oh and Professor Young-wook Kim of California State University said it had succeeded in detecting drones more than 3 kilometers away by applying AESA radar technology to extend the maximum detection range.

The technology’s performance was described as comparable to that of Israel’s RADA, a leading developer of drone-detection radar systems at the time.

The research team planned further performance testing across a variety of outdoor environments and different types of drones.

The results of the study were published in the international journal IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters.
